QuietFire Productions began in 1966 as QuietFire Repertory Company, both a youth alternatives program and a developmental training /performance outlet for inner city youth, their families, and local artists. Celebrities have been an integral part of the company, including: Robert Alexander, Founder of the Living Stage; Joseph Walker, Tony Award winner for The River Niger; and the famed Elizabeth Taylor. QuietFire was sponsored by The Mental Health Association of Alexandria until we achieved independent status in 1984. In 1981, Greenfair Moses, III (Brother Moses) and three (3) members of Quiet Fire were invited by then State Representative, David Speck, to perform before The Virginia State General Assembly to mark its first official recognition of Martin Luther King's Birthday. We were the first re-enactors, of King's "I have a dream speech," on Capitol Hill, to make King's birthday a national holiday. QuietFire was also among the first re-enactors to perform on the steps of the Nation's Capitol to petition Congress for a monument to commemorate the Black soldiers who fought in the Civil War. Altogether, we have written, produced and performed plays for and about inner city residents for the last 32 years. Over the years QuietFire has received numerous awards for community service and artistic achievement. We have and will continue to receive funding from the City of Alexandria, the state of Virginia, private corporations, foundations, and individual sponsors. Our Board of Directors is made up of a lawyer, an accountant, school teachers, national touring artists and directors. Some of our artists have gone on to national acclaim, and continue to make a name for themselves on the professional stage. We have vast experience in the theater and are quite capable of designing , building , and operating a theater space. Our role in the community has expanded beyond the theater. We now serve as advisors and trainers to vocalists, some of whom are recording and touring with their own show. In addition, one of our past members sings background with such notables as Michael Jackson and the Hawkins. Two of our members are working professionally in Television, and on Broadway. Many of the children that started with us some 31 years ago are enjoying successful lives in non artistic areas. We have been aiding two gifted athletes in their quest to get into the NBA. We helped Libby Clark Lewis write and research her book on her family's roots. We now have second generation children in the company, with third generation grandchildren attending our performing arts summer camps. This is our mission: To create, use, and produce professional art as a tool for social uplifting in communities that are vastly under served. To provide a professional creative outlet for artists that are vastly under served. And finally to serve as a resource house for non artists that can benefit from our knowledge and contacts. QuietFire seeks all talents to develop, produce, and promote. Our primary goal is to help the community, in whatever way we can, achieve its goal of nurturing, teaching, and turning out positive, productive, and peaceful citizens, that feel a part of this community, that have the community's best interest in mind, and who wish to contribute to the community's continued well-being. QuietFire has always enjoyed a very nice following despite the fact we have had no fixed home. If we were to acquire our own building, it would be of great benefit to our visitors, supporters and the overall community.
